Siyaphumelela Inaugural Conference, May 14th - 15th 2015

The East Rand, home of Africa’s busiest airport, provided another significant runway for the take-off of the launch of the Siyapumelela - We Succeed - Programme, by hosting its maiden conference at the OR Tambo International Garden Court in May this year.  Saide  is serving as the co-ordinating body of the programme, a regionally-based learning analytics initiative aimed at improving student retention and success in higher education, sponsored by the Kresge Foundation. Learning from Implementation: Key Issues for the African Storybook Project

Saide's African Storybook Project creates immense opportunities for learning as the project unfolds. The initial plans provided broad guidelines, but the situation on the ground shapes the real practice. In implementing the project, the team is collecting information in a multiplicity of ways and analysing it systematically to deepen our understanding of key issues. Ephraim Mhlanga, who is leading the project Learnings Stream, outlines the issues.

 

 

Open University of Tanzania Takes Stock of OER Experience at High Level Forums

Saide’s OER Africa Initiative has entered into a partnership with four universities in southern Africa whereby a participatory action research approach will be used to facilitate the effective integration and use of Open Educational Resources into institutional systems and operations. One of the universities we are working with is the Open University of Tanzania. Brenda Mallinson reports on two workshops she facilitated to support collaborative processes.

 

 

Quality Enhancement at the National Open University of Nigeria

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), the only dedicated public provider of distance education in the country, recently asked Saide to facilitate a quality assurance workshop for institutional management and their Quality Assurance Committee staff. Ephraim Mhlanga was the facilitator.
