South African Higher Education Dreaming!

In  February 2016 a South African higher education delegation sponsored by the Kresge Foundation, participated in DREAM 2016, the Achieving the Dream’s Annual Institute on Student Success. Most of the delegation was from the Siyaphumelela Initiative, where Saide co-ordinates the work of five universities towards student success using data analytics. Alan Amory from Saide reports.
 

 

The Uptake of the African Storybook Initiative in Arua, Uganda

The African Storybook Initiative (ASb) was introduced in Arua Hill Primary School in 2011 as one of four Ugandan pilot sites. Since then, ASb has considerably impacted literacy practices at Arua Hill Primary School and in the local communities. Sam Andema, an ASb Steering Committee member, provides his observations of the impact of the project on this pilot site.
 

 

Open Education Global Conference 2016

The OE Global annual conference took place in Krakow, Poland in April, 2016. The purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for those involved with, or seeking to engage with open education both broadly and deeply.  Brenda Mallinson represented Saide’s OER Africa Initiative at the conference.
 

 

e-Learning Africa 2016 and OER

This 1000 participant event took place in Cairo in 2016. With 36 exhibitors and themes ranging from skills and competencies, students and learning, health care initiatives, teachers and educators, development opportunities in and for local communities, schools, and higher education institutions, the conference had a strong focus on Open Education Resources.
