SAIDE has recently added over 100 new resources to UNESCO's Higher Education Open and Distance Learning database. The database now has over 500 online resources, all of which are either resources from Africa or have, what we believe, direct relevance to distance educators and researchers in Africa.

Examples of some of the sites that were consulted for data mining include:

  • A Google search of all countries in southern Africa together with the key term distance education
  • Commonwealth of Learning
  • Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia
  • Centre for Research in Distance and Adult Learning
  • Canadian Association of Distance Education
  • International Research Review of Open and Distance Learning
  • International Research Foundation of Open Learning
  • Open and Distance Learning Association of Australia
  • European Distance Education Network and its online journal EURODL
  • Open University ( UK )
  • African Virtual University
  • SAIDE digital library

The resource upload tool that enables anyone to contribute to the database has also been upgraded. We would like to urge the SAIDE newsletter readership to contribute actively to this valuable knowledge base.
