In its efforts to support its members to build capacity in using technology to support teaching and learning, the National Association of Distance Education and Open Learning in South Africa (NADEOSA) successfully hosted the first of the three webinar series aimed at supporting its members on open and flexible learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports Saide’s Ephraim Mhlanga.
The first webinar held on 20 May 2020 was facilitated by Professor Rory McGreal, with 46 participants from across Southern Africa. Professor McGreal’s main message was that due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, schools and universities across the world have shifted to online learning and that distance learning forms a key part of learning in the 21st century. Open Educational Resources (OER) are a necessary component to enable access to learning for all.
Participants commended Professor Rory McGreal for his expert knowledge on OER generally and adept facilitation on the topic Why OER are essential for education.
