Pre-enrollment counseling
Preenrollment counseling can help reduce dropout by ensuring that students are in courses for which they are adequately prepared and that are likely to satisfy them.

Preenrollment counseling can be provided through a one-on-one meeting or telephone interview between a student and a counselor, a special group session, or pamphlets or other materials. Students need to be fully informed about such matters as:

  • The prior knowledge needed for the course
  • The length of the course
  • The fees, if any
  • Any requirement to attend residential sessions.

During preenrollment counseling, explaining the importance of time management can be especially important. Potential students commonly underestimate the time commitment required and the need to make appropriate family or work arrangements to complete their studies.
