Study guides and course guides
A printed course guide or study guide is an essential part of any distance education course, even one in which nearly all the teaching is conducted through nonprint technologies such as TV or conferencing. A guide introduces the course, specifies the objectives, and provides information and guidance on study skills and assessment (such as homework assignments and examinations). It also may include preparatory and follow-up reading for TV broadcasts or audiocassettes, and guidance notes and follow-up activities related to material in a textbook or course reader. It would also include contacts, technical information, lists of references and resources, and details about the course designers, instructors, and tutors and, in some cases, about the other students.
